Indonesia’s SEA Games promises to be ‘exceptional’

Thursday 18 Aug 2011
The organising committee of this year’s SEA Games in Indonesia has promised spectacular opening and closing ceremonies, which will involve four specialist choreographers, a symphony orchestra, some of Asia’s top musical performers and 5,000 dancers.

This was disclosed to broadcasters at a series of meetings in Jakarta and Palembang under the banner ‘United and Rising’.

The ceremonies’ Deputy Director, Akhmad Sef, told the 70 broadcast delegates from the 11 competing nations that 26 cameras, including specialist ones such as ‘Dragon Fly’ and ‘Spider Cam’ would be used to convey the full artistic affect.

“It will be the dream of the future and (depict) how our cities will continue to rise,” he said.

The Games will involve venues and broadcast centres in the capital city, Jakarta and the major Sumatran city of Palembang.

“All technical facilities are in place to deliver an exceptional event,” Linda Wahudi, the Director of Media and Broadcast with the organising committee, said.

The host broadcast is being supported by TVRI and RRI, two of the ABU’s members in Indonesia. They will deliver coverage of 43 individual sports, 12 of which will be telecast live.
