Saturday 03 Sep 2011
A Bernama TV cameraman, Noramfaizul Mohd Nor, who was part of a humanitarian mission to famine-stricken Somalia was killed in a shooting incident in Mogadishu yesterday evening, Bernama news agency reports.

TV3 journalist Aji Saregar Mazlan was injured in the incident, which occurred as the Malaysian team of journalists and crew were travelling in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, escorted by a Somali armed forces truck.

Astro Awani journalist Tan Su Lin in her report said she heard two gunshots on the right of their vehicle.

“I turned around and saw Aji writhing in pain and Faizul turned pale and collapsed on Aji’s shoulder,” she said.

Bernama TV journalist Khairulanual Yahaya, who is part of the humanitarian mission, said the bullet pierced through Noramfaizul’s lungs and he succumbed to his injuries 30 minutes later while receiving medical treatment.

He leaves behind a wife and two sons.

Somalia’s interior and national security ministry has pledged to investigate the cause of the incident.
