PLANE CRASH TRAGEDY IN ORUMIYEH
The Asiavision Award for January goes to IRIB for its coverage of a plane crash in Iran’s West Azerbaijan province. Asiavision was able to carry out a newsflash of the tragedy in which an Iranian passenger plane with 105 passengers and crew on board crashed near Orumiyeh city on the night of 9 January, killing 77 people. The Boeing 727 aircraft, flying from Tehran, reportedly went down during an attempt to land in severe winter weather conditions.

The Asiavision Annual Awards are presented to members for important contributions to the news exchange. Each award carries a cash prize.
Three Asiavision members win 2010 annual awards
Three Asiavision members – CCTV-China, NHK-Japan and MCOT-Thailand – have won Asiavision Annual Awards for their contributions to the exchange.
CCTV was named the winner of the award for contributing the most news flashes to the news exchange in the 12 months to May 2010. It wins a prize of US$700.
In a ballot of members at the News Group meeting in Bangkok in August, NHK and MCOT won annual awards for the overall quality of their contributions to AVN. Each wins a prize of US$700
|DENNIS ANTHONY MEMORIAL AWARD
The Dennis Anthony Memorial Award is a trophy for the best news coverage of the year by an Asiavision member. It is offered by CNN and is named in memory of Dennis Anthony, former ABU Senior Officer News, who died in 1996.
IRIB wins award for the coverage of twin car bombings
Remarkable coverage of the immediate aftermath of twin car bombings in the Iraqi capital Baghdad has earned IRIB the Dennis Anthony Memorial Award for 2010. The attacks left more than 150 people dead. IRIB provided exceptionally well shot footage of the devastation of the suicide attacks. The near simultaneous attacks on the morning of 25 October 2009 targeted the Justice Ministry building and the nearby Baghdad provincial government offices.
|ASIAVISION AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO ASEAN TELEVISION NEWS
Asiavision sponsors an annual award for best contributions to ASEAN Television News, a weekly news exchange among the 10 national broadcasters of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The 2009 winner is Radio Television Brunei. The citation reads as follows:
The 2009 Asiavision Award for best contributions by a member of ASEAN Television News (ATN) goes to Radio Television Brunei (RTB) for their commendable contributions. RTB have always kept pace with the times by giving offers that reflect the true Bruneian lifestyle. Their offers include an insight into the lives, cultures and administration of the country. They are also meticulous in ensuring high quality visuals and audio for their offers. Their efforts to contribute regularly are also noteworthy.
