Bangladesh TV to stay off air for up to a week

Sunday 23 Oct 2011
The broadcast of state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) has been off air in parts of the country while repairs are being made to equipment damaged by a lightning strike last year, Bangladesh News 24 reports.

Viewers in the districts of Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Sylhet and Sunamganj have been unable to watch BTV broadcasts since last Thursday.

Assistant Engineer Abdul Latif Khan of BTV’s Sylhet unit said: “An expert team coming from France started changing the feeder cable and repairing the divider on Thursday. It may take another week to resume the broadcast”.

Cricket fans in the affected areas have expressed their ‘dissatisfaction’ at not being able to watch the in progress Test match between Bangladesh and the West Indies. They have been calling the district sports association to complain. Bangladesh TV is the exclusive domestic broadcast rights holder for the series.
