Three CCTV channels launch in Myanmar

Three China Central Television (CCTV) channels – CCTV-4 (Chinese), CCTV-News (English) and CCTV-9 (Documentary) were launched in Myanmar on Thursday in cooperation with Myanmar’s semi-government MRTV-4 and Sky Net, China’s state news agency Xinhua reports.

MRTV-4 is operated by the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) with the cooperation of the private Forever Media Group, while the Sky Net is run by MRTV with the private Shwe Than Lwin company.
 
Attending the launch were Tian Jin, Vice Minister of the State Administration of Radio Film and Television of China and U Soe Win, Deputy Minister of Information of Myanmar.
 
The three CCTV channels’ programmes will be rebroadcast by MRTV-4 and Forever Media Group in Myanmar via Sky Net DTH Platform and Forever Group’s Digital Terrestrial Television System under a cooperative protocol.
 
CCTV-4 is the only CCTV international channel broadcast throughout the world in Chinese, while CCTV-News is a 24-hour English news channel. CCTV-9 Documentary is a 24-hour specialised documentary channel which is broadcast both in Chinese and English globally.
