Run by the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, the station was launched on Saturday night by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, and covered its own opening live.

It began normal schedules today after running special programming yesterday.

Mr Bainimarama told the opening ceremony that the launch marked a rebirth for FBC.

“We are reaffirming FBC’s place in Fijian society making it relevant for a new generation as a national broadcaster.”

The company Chairman, Yaminiasi Gaunavou, said FBC had now become the leading media outlet in the South Pacific.

“Your national broadcaster has brought to you many great moments in the history of our nation and we witness another giant step in the media development of our country and I must say we are fortunate to be part of this change.”

FBC TV is Fiji’s third commercial free-to-air TV network. FBC is Fiji’s national radio broadcaster and began operating in 1954.
