CNN’s Anna Coren named ‘Best News Presenter’

CNN correspondent Anna Coren was named ‘Best News Presenter or Anchor during this year’s Asian Television Awards.

Ms Coren, CNN’s Hong Kong-based correspondent for World Report, has been reporting extensively in Japan, Australia and New Zealand this year.

Her award was among the five honours that CNN won, including the coveted ‘Cable and Satellite Channel of the Year’ and ‘Cable and Satellite Network of the Year.’

The CNN Freedom Project was also recognised with two of its reports receiving accolades for ‘Best Single News Story/Report’ and ‘Best Social Awareness Programme.’

“To win five awards, including network and channel of the year, is an extraordinary achievement and testament to the excellence, dedication and bravery of our people in Asia Pacific and around the world,” said Tony Maddox, Executive Vice-President and Managing Director of CNN International.

“It is especially pleasing to see recognition and reward for two of our CNN Freedom Project programmes, an initiative which remains fearless and unwavering in its determination to help bring an end to modern-day slavery.”

One of the Freedom Project pieces took the ‘Best Single News Story/Report’ award for a powerful report by CNN’s Delhi correspondent, Sara Sidner, about a young Bangladeshi boy who helped uncover a criminal gang that had been maiming children and forcing them to beg.

Best Social Awareness Programme’ went to Nepal’s Stolen Children, a documentary which followed actress and activist Demi Moore as she travelled to Nepal to shine a light on the forced prostitution of young girls and women.
