Bhutanese media honoured by King

On the occasion of the National Day celebrations in the Bhutanese capital of Thimpu, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck has conferred awards to Bhutanese media.

Bhutan Times reports that 18 media houses, inclusive of TV, radio and print media, were awarded the National Order of Merit (Gold) on Saturday for their vital role of keeping the people well informed, encouraging debate and participation as well as their role in preserving the culture and traditions of Bhutan.

Among the recipients, was Kuzoo FM. Managing Director Karma Choden received the medal on behalf of her organisation.

“This has motivated me and my entire staff to work hard and achieve the values reiterated by our King,” Ms Choden said.

Popularly known as “the voice of youth”, Kuzoo FM is the second biggest radio station in Bhutan. A project initiated by the King, Kuzoo FM provides a forum where young people can express their views and share their experiences. It has two radio stations in the national language and English, and is on air 24/7. It can be heard online at www.kuzoo.net
