RTM’s new integrated news centre nearly complete

The RM100-million (US$31.4 million) integrated news centre of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) in Kuala Lumpur will be ready next month, Bernama reports.

“Thus is realised the dream of the ministry and the government to establish the infrastructure for reporting,” said Malaysia’s Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim said yesterday

The project is 94 per cent complete and the remaining six per cent will be completed by 21January,” he told reporters after a visit to the project site.

He said the five-storey building will serve as the centre for broadcast of news and current affairs. It will also house archives and the administrative office of RTM staff.

Work on the building began on 28 January 2009.

Dr Rais said RTM can no longer rely on old ways and has to be more prominent and competitive to develop new branding and quality reporting
