Internet brings religious festival to Philippines expats
Filipinos who live and work abroad had the chance to follow one of the biggest local religious festivals, Sinulog, thanks to a free and real time video streaming by the Sun Star newspaper.
The viewers witnessed how millions of people from all walks of life braved the sweltering heat to see the performances of local and visiting groups, floats of different shapes and sizes, and giant puppets, which are what the Sinulog celebration is known for.
The festivities on the island of Cebu included people dancing while holding images of the Child Jesus and chanting “Pit Senyor!”, a phrase with which the locals give thanks to their patron saint.
