3.3 million TNTSat receivers sold at end of 2011

Satellite operator SES Astra’s TNTSat French digital terrestrial offer on satellite sold a total of 3.3 million receivers at the end of 2011, sat-television.com reports.

This represents an increase of 650,000 compared to the end of 2010 for the TNTSAT offer which was launched in March 2007 to help the transition from analogue to digital reception completed in November 2011 in France.

Viewers can receive the full French digital terrestrial offer comprising 19 French FTA channels and the 24 regional channels of France 3 and TV8 Mont Blanc, as well as four HD channels.

Households need a satellite dish pointed to the Astra orbital position 19.2 degrees East and a TNTSAT receiver with a smart card. Ten other FTA French TV channels, and 460 international TV and radio channels, can also be accessed.

TNTSats’ principal competitor in the DTT by satellite segment is Fransat, available to 1.6 million households, via Eutelsat’s Atlantic Bird position.
