Malaysia and Singapore in entertainment and media tie-up

The Malaysia’s National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) hosted a three day forum bringing together Singaporean and Malaysian entertainment and media companies for closer cooperation in entering the global market.

Since October 2011, FINAS and Singapore’s Media Development Authority (MDA) have been in talks to work together for fostering closer links between production houses in both countries for future co-production projects. In line with the significant growth in the Asian entertainment and media industry in recent years, Malaysia and Singapore are now combining their efforts and resources as a strategic alliance to penetrate the global market.

During the event, held 30 Jan – 1 Feb in  Kuala Lumpur, the 33 Singapore entertainment and media companies had a chance to  visit major local broadcasters, RTM, Media Prima, Astro , and studios such as Metrowealth, KRU, Les’ Copaque Productions, MM2 Entertainment, Animasia Studio, Funcel. Other activities undertaken during the three day forum  mission are workshops, forums, business-matching sessions and networking receptions.

Mohd Naguib Razak, Director General of FINAS said, “Sharing efforts and resources together amongst regional neighbours, such as Singapore, makes perfect sense and should bring a wealth of positives to both our countries, especially when Malaysia and Singapore already share similar culture, race, languages and traditions, are world-class digital content providers and possess a high-growth sector known worldwide.”
