Star India and Doordarshan negotiate joint Aamir Khan TV show

Talks are underway between News Corp’s Star India and the country’s public broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) to air a chat show produced and anchored by Bollywood star Aamir Khan, rapidtvnews.com reports.

According to the Financial Express, a potential tie up would help Star reach the population of rural India via Doordarshan, which has a network of 21 regional and national channels.

The proposal under consideration is reportedly to broadcast the show simultaneously on the Star Plus channel and DD, in Hindi, English and regional languages.

DD reaches 100percent of India’s 142 million TV households, given its multi-platform availability – on terrestrial TV as well as analogue and digital cable and satellite and networks.

The Star Plus channel is available to around 116 million cable, satellite and digital homes.

An alliance for the as yet untitled chat show would help Star India reach 500 million viewers, according to audience measurement agency TAM Media Research.
