Turkmenistan state broadcaster to join the ABU

A three member delegation of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography was in the ABU headquarter in Kuala Lumpur to apply for membership of the Union.

During the two day visit the Turkmenistan guests discussed with the ABU departments the range of services and benefits ABU membership offers in sports, technology and programming.

The head of the delegation, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee, Mr. Rasul Charyyev, pointed out that the Turkmenistan state broadcaster is eager to join the ABU in order to develop links with other broadcasting organisations in the Asia-Pacific region and to have an international platform for popularizing the country.

Turkmenistan state broadcaster is interested to acquire through ABU broadcast rights for sports events and to receive training for its technical staff. Last October the broadcaster moved to a new state-of-art TV center and in January launched a 24 hours Sports Channel.

The visit was facilitated by the BBC Media Action, which is the international development arm of the British Broadcasting Corporation and is part of its Media Development in Turkmenistan programme, funded by the European Union.
