Pakistan’s new Minister for Information and Broadcasting Appointed.

Federal Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has been given the portfolio for Information and Broadcasting, replacing Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, who has now in charge of the Ministry of National Regulation and Services, pakistantoday.com reports.

Kaira, who served as Minister for Information and Broadcasting from March 2009 to February 2011, was born in Kharian in 1960. He has also served as Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas, Minister for Information Technology, and Governor of Gilgit-Baltisan during the current coalition government’s tenure.

Kaira was elected to the National Assembly from his constituency in Gujrat, and became a minister in the coalition government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) formed after the election in 2008.

The Minister graduated from Forman Christian College University, and acquired a Masters of Arts (Philosophy) from University of the Punjab, Lahore. Kaira also has a Masters degree in Political Sciences.
