NHK Calls for entries in the 2012 Japan Prize

Organisations have until 30 June to submit their entries to the 2012 Japan Prize, an International Contest for Educational Media.

The JAPAN PRIZE was established in 1965 by NHK as International Educational Program Contest with the aims of improving the quality of educational programs around the world and contributing to the development and fostering of international understanding and cooperation.

Last year, the JAPAN PRIZE received 313 entries from 200 organizations in 61 countries. The organisers hope that this year will see even more audiovisual entries, demonstrating the educational effectiveness and abundant creativity in this field which will further position the JAPAN PRIZE as a unique hub where people involved with educational programs and other media will learn together.

Secretary General of the Japan Prize Mr Horoko Sakaue said NHK is looking forward to receiving many entries with educational value: “In addition, since this year marks the 10th anniversary of the TV Proposal Division, we are hoping to receive many proposals for future educational TV programs from aspiring produces who are eager to realize their vision into production and broadcasts.”

The Awards encompass the prestigious Grand Prix Japan Prize, awarded for the most outstanding work among all of the Audiovisual entries, which excels in its ability to educate and in its contribution to educational broadcasting; prizes for the best work in each of the six categories on offer as well as three special prizes.
