TRT Turk channel now on Astra

Turkey’s public broadcaster, Turkiye Radyo ve Televizyon Kurumu (TRT) has signed a multi-year deal with SES for its international digital channel TRT Turk to be carried by the Astra satellite located at 19.2 degrees East.

“By choosing ASTRA’s prime orbital position 19.2 degrees East, we will get immediate access to millions of homes, providing a large audience interested in the Turkish culture with access to premium entertainment and information made in Turkey. We trust that the cooperation with Astra will provide us with a strong foothold in the European market from day one onwards,” said Ibrahim Sahin, general manager, TRT.

The channel will utilise transponder space freed up by German broadcasters when the western European country switched off analogue TV transmission on 30 April.

Norbert Holzle, senior vice president commercial Europe, SES, added: “We welcome TRT Turk on board Europe’s largest broadcasting platform and look forward to adding another exciting channel, unlike any other infrastructure, satellite is able to broadcast a large variety of linear content in high quality to an unlimited audience across large geographical regions.”
