Sweden wins its 5th Eurovision Song contest.

The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 is Sweden’s Loreen, who gained a substantial lead early on in points and finally won with 372 points, giving Sweden their 5th Eurovision victory.

Russia and Serbia missed out on the top spot with 259 and 214 points respectively.

The final outcome was decided by a 50:50 split between professional juries and televoting from all 42 participants.

The 26 finalists were made up of 20 qualifiers from the first and second Semi-Finals held on the 22nd and 24th of May and six automatic qualifiers including the Big 5 countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) and the host country Azerbaijan.

It was also revealed that Loreen had also won the second Semi-Final with a total of 181 points compared to Serbia and Lithuania who came second and third respectively. The winner of the first Semi-Final was Russia with 152 points followed by Albania and Romania.
