ERT Greece – wins 31st International URTI Grand Prix for Author’s Documentary

The winners of the 31st International URTI Grand Prix for Author’s Documentary – Arman Trophy – were announced in Monaco yesterday. 

The Grand Prix went to ERT Greece for its documentary Sayome, about a family navigating two cultures – Japanese and Greek.  It is the story of Sayome who left her native Japan to travel around the world with a man who would become her husband.  Thirty years later she takes their son to Greece, to rediscover his heritage. 

The Silver Medal went to TV3 Spain for Sunday in Brazzaville and the Bronze Medal to RTS Switzerland for The Judge and the Minors. The Martine Filippi Award for discovery was taken out by the GMA Network of the Philippines for the documentary It’s Time, chronicling the environmental challenges our societies face. 

This year, 255 documentaries were selected for the competition, representing 182 television channels from 72 different countries.

The International URTI Grand Prix for Author’s Documentary is an annual event organised by URTI to promote the vitality of contemporary audiovisual production around the world.
