EBU to champion future proofing at IBC2012

The European Broadcasting Union will make the importance of future-proofing public service media the cornerstone of their attendance at this year’s International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam from 6 –11 September.

The EBU’s Technology and Innovation Department will stress what it says are three core goals in support of public service media: to reduce costs, increase reach and enhance viewers’ experience.

The Union says IBC2012 is shaping up to be one of its busiest yet, with a full program of demonstrations, presentations, vendor tours, conference sessions and media interviews.

New at IBC this year is a theatre where visitors can see half-hourly presentations on spectrum policy, Framework for Interoperable Media Service (FIMS), broadband delivery and Beyond High Definition, as well as EBI Times Text, networks and storage, hybrid radio and green broadcasting.

The EBU will also stage demonstrations on: MPEG-DASH, the new enabling technology for adaptive streaming; solving problems with LED Lights; and the MIMO RF chain for HD radio cameras.
