BBTV Thailand expands to multiple digital platforms

Bangkok’s Channel 7 has strengthened its free TV business in the digital era by making its content available on all digital platforms.

Saran Virutamavongsa, Managing Director of BBTV Channel 7, said the station’s move to develop its own multiple digital platforms is designed to serve changing audience behaviour and to address growing competition from other broadcasters including cable and satellite TV operators.

The new platforms include a website, social networking sites, mobile and smart devices applications that will offer content anytime and anywhere.

“We have developed the entire infrastructure for many years and we are now ready to provide copyrighted content through our own platforms,” he added.

In 2007, the channel has established BBTV New Media Co with a mandate to look after all new media platforms. The subsidiary has spent several hundred million baht developing hardware and servers as well as human resource capability to handle the new challenges.

Audiences can now access Channel 7’s content via www.ch7.com and www.bugaboo.tv. There is also a free app for Apple users called BBTV Ch 7 available at Apple’s iTune store.
