CASBAA – Asia-Pacific leads global multichannel TV sector

The number of multichannel homes in the Asia Pacific now stands at 446 million, reflecting a 57% penetration of all TV homes in the region, CASBAA announced as its Convention kicked off in Hong Kong.

“The Asia Pacific remains a global engine room for the multichannel TV sector,” said Simon Twiston Davies, the CEO of CASBAA. “Even as the rest of the world worries about overall economic indicators, the Asia pay-TV market remains in robust health.”

In the last 12 months, the number of multichannel homes rose by 39 million. Data indicates that Asia is home to more than half, or 53%, of all global multichannel homes. In the region, TV in general remains the dominant advertising medium as 70% of viewers watch multichannel TV. CASBAA says affluent Asian multichannel TV audiences are early adopters and comfortable with pay-tv advertising. This is backed up by the global adspend figures which are pegged at 61% for television in general.
