NHK launches its annual year-end charity campaign

Japan’s public broadcaster NHK has launched its annual year-end charity campaign across the country to raise money for people in need at home and abroad.

The campaign involves NHK branches across the country, the Japan Red Cross Society, the Central Community Chest of Japan, post offices, and some banks.

At NHK’s broadcasting centre in Tokyo, local kindergarteners with their savings in handmade moneyboxes were among the first donors.

The contributions collected at NHK will go to the physically disabled and the elderly who require nursing care in Japan, and will be used to help the survivors of last year’s nuclear disaster in Fukushima Prefecture.

NHK also offers some of the contributions for those who are suffering from wars and natural disasters, through the Japanese Red Cross.

The event will run through December 25th.
