BTV, Bangladesh celebrates its 48th anniversary

December 25th marked the 48th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Television and BTV is celebrating the day with a range of special programmes.

The state run television channel started its journey on December 25, 1964 by the name of Dhaka Television, first of its kind in the subcontinent.

The test run of Dhaka Television started from a small floor of DIT building. Later, it was renamed as Bangladesh Television in 1972 just after the independence of the country.

During its long journey BTV played a vital role in different democratic movement including the six point charter movement, mass upsurge in 1969, general election in 1970 and the anti-autocratic movement.

Apart from broadcasting news, Bangladesh television obtained popularity through airing different kinds of programmes including drama, feature films, magazine programmes and documentaries.
