India intent on tracking down illegal channels

India’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) has directed all teleports operating in the country to submit a monthly list of channels being uplinked by them, indiantelevision.com reports.

This comes as a latest step in India’s effort to tracking down illegal transmission of television channels and monitoring the channels being downlinked to the viewers.

In the past, information was sent monthly to the Network Operations Control Centre under the Communications Ministry. However now the I&B Ministry also wants the information to be provided to them to bring about transparency and keep a check on the channels.

A teleport or a telecommunications port is a satellite ground station connecting a satellite network with a terrestrial network.
