EBU appoints first Chief Digital Officer

The European Broadcasting Union has appointed its first Chief Digital Officer (CDO) to oversee the full spectrum of EBU digital strategies and drive positive change across the organisation.

Torben Eriksen, a former deputy director at Danish broadcaster DR who has held various management jobs during three years at the EBU, took up his post this week with immediate effect.

According to the EBU, Mr Eriksen’s first priority will be to give the Union’s online presence greater uniformity as well as to ensure Members and customers receive a consistent service and the same standard of detail and quality across the organisation.

Shortly after his appointment, Mr Eriksen said: “Technological innovation is at the core of our services, leading us to innovate new ways to interact with our Members and customers. These changes are not IT changes; they are business changes. It requires business attention and business oversight to make this happen in a consistent way across all our digital channels. I’m looking forward to driving this change with all my dedicated colleagues at the EBU.”
