Samsung TV Discovery coming to smart TV and mobile devices

Samsung is to launch a TV Discovery service enabling access to video and live TV content across multiple content providers from both its range of mobile devices and smart TVs, reports Rapid TV News.

Initially aggregating content from Netflix and Blockbuster in the US, and Acetrax, Wuaki, MovieMax, FilmIn, Chili, Pathé and SF Anytime in Europe, TV Discovery is claimed to simplify the content access process by integrating and relaying real-time programme information from multiple content sources, including traditional live TV, video-on-demand or online content services such as YouTube. Over time, it will also offer personal recommendations based on users’ viewing and preference histories.

Emphasising the synergy between its different core business lines, Samsung added that in addition to finding and viewing content on smart TVs and supported mobile devices, TV Discovery can also be used to transfer or mirror content between connected devices. This can mean using a connected tablet as a universal remote control.

“More and more people are starting to expect the same experience from each and every screen they own – whether it’s their smartphone and tablet, TV or camera. TV Discovery is bringing that demand ever closer to becoming a reality by giving our customers the opportunity to search for and enjoy their favourite TV shows or the latest films wherever they are, whether that’s on the commute into work or sat in their living room,” explained Simon Stanford, vice president of IM division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.
