CCTV raises US$21.99 million for charity

The second season of CCTV music show Meng Xiang He Chang Tuan, a format based on Clash of the Choirs, has raised US$21.99 million for charity, cmmintelligence.com reports.

According to CCTV Editor in Chief Luo Ming, many people and organizations have been helped with the funds raised. He said this program shows that imported formats could perform better when some changes were made to meet local audience tastes. “Entertainment programs need to focus on the real need in life of ordinary people”, added Luo. 

Meanwhile, CCTV Movie Channel and News Channel have announced they will jointly launch an initiative on February 5 to encourage youth to watch films together with their parents. More than 500 cinemas across mainland China have pledged their support for the activity.
