India’s Doordarshan to go through major revamp

Jawahar Sircar, CEO of India’s Public Broadcaster Prasar Bharti, confirmed that its TV arm Doordarshan will soon undergo a major revamp to keep up with the changing tastes and audience preferences in India.

He made the announcement  during a discussion session of “Battle of the story” at the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) event held in New Delhi, reports.

The theme, “Battle of the story” – opportunities and challenges @2020, was about the changing media prospects and the role that media would play in near future.

Speaking at the event, Rajiv Mundhra, ICC Director, highlighted the importance of digital and technical media. Throwing light on the significance of radio, he said that popularity of radio is increasing day by day as it serves the masses.

The event underlined the importance of media ethics and the need to impose regulation on the media. The panel also discussed the role of media in bringing about social changes in India.
