China’s Youku to stream UK drama

China’s biggest video streaming site Youku has recently announced its cooperation with BBC, whereby a channel specific for UK drama will be opened on the streaming site.

China Media Monitor reports the channel will have four primary categories: Crime & Thrillers, Suspense & Legal, Masterpiece Classics and Science Fiction.

Current titles such as The Body Farm, The Fades, Misfits, Parade’s End, Emma, smash hits like Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, and Ripper Street are also on the screening schedule, together with the popular car show Top Gear.

In addition, Youku’s president Wei Ming revealed that the streaming site will cover UK dramas in its in-house entertainment programs and use production footage from BBC to inform Chinese audiences of the latest updates in the UK drama sector.
