Aggregated mobile news a ‘must’, Indonesian reporters told at an ABU workshop

Reporters capturing news must be able to produce aggregated-mobile radio news, says a leading regional trainer.

“The goal is to reach as many audiences everywhere, anywhere and using every possible medium,” Steve Ahern told Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) reporters in Yogyakarta on Mobile Journalism course organised by ABU.

He said multi-platform media were becoming increasingly popular.

“I’m here to give understanding to Indonesian reporters about the latest technology and how to use it appropriately,” he said. Mr Ahern also gave tips on how to distribute news using RSS feeds.

Yopi Yakob, report coordinator from RRI News Centre, said he hoped RRI would be ready to face the challenges of fast-developing technology and media competition.

RRI participants compiled a multimedia report on the course using their mobile technology.
