Entries open for annual ABU Radio and TV prizes

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union is calling for entries for the 2013 ABU Prizes and member broadcasters have until 21 June 2013 to submit entries for the six radio and seven television categories.

Entries for most categories must have been first broadcast between 1 February 2012 and 31 May this year except for TV Sports entries, which can go back to a first broadcast date of 1 February 2011.

The six radio categories are for drama, documentary, news reporting, station promotions, interactive programs and on-air personality. The television categories are for drama, documentary, entertainment, children, news reporting and sport. The seventh TV category is the ABU Perspective Award for “a program that best delivers the message of the ABU’s perspective on the theme of global issue chosen by ABU members and illustrated through their local issue in any form”. This year’s theme is “Change”.

The 2012 ABU Prizes attracted 166 television and 76 radio entries from 18 countries and 25 organisations, a field the Union’s Secretary-General Dr Javad Mottaghi said reflected the scope and quality of programming being produced by ABU members.

“Every day there are many hours of really excellent programs being made by our members in the Asia-Pacific and beyond,” he says. “The ABU Prizes pay tribute to the stations and networks who produce them.”

Organisers stipulate entries must be in mp3 format for radio and on DVD for TV. Rules and entry forms can be obtained from www.abu.org.my and enquiries should be directed to abuprizes@abu.org.my.
