More than 100 million watch 2013 Eurovision Song Contest

More than 100 million television viewers in Europe tuned in to see Denmark’s Emmelie de Forest win the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden. The two Semi and Grand Finals of the Contest were transmitted live over the EUROVISION and EURORADIO networks via European Broadcasting Union (EBU) member, SVT.

The result bestows hosting rights to next year’s event to EBU Member TV2, Denmark.

EBU Executive Supervisor, Jon Ola Sand, said the production had exceeded expectations.

“The EBU would like to thank everyone at SVT for their extraordinary effort in staging this year’s Song Contest. All three shows set new standards for TV entertainment worldwide. Our congratulations go to Denmark and to all the delegations that participated in the 58th edition of Europe’s favourite TV show.”

This year, viewers were able to vote via a dedicated app, made available for iOS and Android users. The app’s second-screen functionality offered viewers live updates during the shows about the contestants, their songs, opening and interval acts, as well as the results
