India’s DDI to air ICC Champions Trophy commercial-free

India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan announced that it will broadcast the ICC Champions Trophy without any ad breaks.

Mediamughals reports that DD has decided to telecast the entire ICC Champions Trophy without any TV commercials at all and this will provide viewers the first of its kind experience.

This decision came up after the direction of the Delhi High Court on an appeal by ESPN on the basis that Doordarshan can only show the series mentioned above with advertisements that were ‘embedded’ into the telecast by the ICC.

However, the public broadcaster maintained that according to the Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing) Act 2007, it can only telecast a ‘clean feed’, i.e. without advertisements.
