Nepal pay-TV subs top 200k

Nepal is not perhaps the first country that comes to mind in reporting a buoyant pay-TV environment, but the latest numbers from Dataxis Asia state that the country now has more than 200,000 pay-TV subscribers.

Kathmandu-based Dish Media Network, which enjoys a monopoly, reports 200,000 subs paying an average of $2.70 a month. Verimatrix provides content protection, advanced-television.com reports.

Viewers receive 70 channels from Intelsat’s 906 craft made up mostly of South Asian programming from India, as well as BBC World, Discovery, Cartoon Network and CNN.
