BBC Weather app reaches 1 million downloads in two weeks

The BBC’s weather app for Android and iOS has passed the one million download mark within two weeks of launching.

According to the BBC, the app has increased its total mobile traffic up from 20 per cent to 25 per cent since its launch, with 84 per cent of mobile traffic over the first weekend driven by its hourly forecast feature.

The first weekend on release also saw an increase of nearly half (47 per cent) in mobile access, with the most popular time for checking the app found to be between 6am and 9am.

James Metcalf, senior product manager at the BBC, admitted in his regular blog that the figures were likely to have been driven by people familiarising themselves with the app and that the rise over that particular weekend was likely due to the changeable weather.
