Cambodia’s One TV a model for Asian digitalisation

Cambodian digital Pay-Television operator One TV was touted as a model for streamlining digital adoption throughout Asia, at the recent BroadcastAsia2013 conference in Singapore.

One TV was launched in 2012 as a joint venture between the Russia’s GS Group and the Royal Group of Companies, one of the largest private companies in Cambodia.

Using a DVB-T transmission network, One TV is the first nationwide digital terrestrial TV operator in the country. It is available in Phnom Penh and eight Cambodian provinces.

GS Group marketing executive Anna Melnikova said that in less than a year since One TV’s soft launch, the project has attracted more than 25,000 subscribers connected over a three-month sales period.

“One TV’s model can be applied in other Asian countries – of course, with some changes and modifications because the market is diverse. But, for sure, it can speed up and facilitate digitalisation of the region.”

GS Group is currently preparing to launch the first DTH project in Pakistan. This will be followed by projects in Bangladesh and Indonesia.
