ABU General Assembly website opens for business

The ABU has launched a new website for the 2013 General Assembly to be held in Vietnam in October.

As well as providing news and program updates in the run-up to the General Assembly in Hanoi, the site also contains information to assist would-be delegates to plan their attendance, including arranging travel, applying for visas, booking accommodation and other useful facts, figures and links.

The ABU’s 50th General assembly is being hosted by VTV and they have designed a site that will make it as easy as possible for delegates to get to Hanoi, as well as to make the most out of the conference itself.

The theme of this year’s General Assembly is Serving our Audience in the Digital Era, and ABU Secretary-General Dr Javad Mottaghi is inviting delegates to put themselves in the place of their viewers and listeners in planning the future of broadcasting.

“We are asking everyone to make a ‘perspective shift’ from technology to audience,” he says. “We will be asking how do we, as broadcasters – public and private, large and small, developing and highly developed – best serve our audiences in the digital age?

Last year’s meeting in Korea, was the biggest in the history of the Union, and Dr Mottaghi believes the 50th Anniversary GA in the Vietnamese capital from 23-29 October 2013 could be even bigger, now the Union has more than 255 members.

And he expects lively debates and a massive exchange of ideas among delegates and guests from throughout the Asia-Pacific and around the world.

He is urging delegates to register early to ensure a place at what he envisages will be a ground-breaking event in broadcasting.

More information and registration details can be found at the GA webpage.
