On-demand TV market to take off in Asia-Pacific

Revenues for on-demand TV in the Asia-Pacific region will more than double between 2012-2018 as viewers around the world catch on to the convenience of services already accepted in the US and Western Europe, according to Digital TV Research.

Currently, the US commands the on-demand TV market, clocking up 37per cent of global on-demand TV revenues in 2012, but this proportion will fall to 30per cent by 2018.

According to the research, on-demand TV is growing fast outside the US. For instance, in China it will more than double its revenues by 2018. Indian revenues will almost triple over the same period.”

On-demand revenues from films and TV shows are set to reach US$6 billion in 2018, up from $4.2 billion in 2012. These exclude revenues from sports and adult services, online over-the-top (OTT), and SVOD packages, Rapid TV News reports.
