DRM showcases disaster warning capacity in India

Digital Radio Mondiale has held workshops with All India Radio (AIR) in New Delhi and Chennai, to demonstrate DRM’s special features, including emergency warnings and alerts.

The first workshop in New Delhi was held for AIR technical staff at their New Delhi transmission site, which is already broadcasting in DRM. They focused on the configuration and implementation of DRM’s Emergency Warning and Alerts features.

About 40 members of AIR staff and management as well as manufacturers had the opportunity to take part in practical demonstrations, as did a further 110 attendees at the second workshop in Chennai, organised by AIR and the Chennai chapter of the Broadcasting Engineering Society of India.

DRM Chair Ms Ruxandra Obreja said AIR was rolling out the DRM radio standard in India by replacing and installing country-wide digital transmitters.

“Radio set manufacturers for desktop, car radios and mobile phones thus have the incentive and immediate opportunity to plan and produce digital radio sets for the Indian population at realistic prices,” she said.
