Asia-Pacific media summit to help future planning in region

Media leaders in the Asia-Pacific are being invited to a Connect Asia-Pacific Summit in Thailand on 18 November 2013.

The summit will bring together heads of state and governments, ministers and heads of regulatory authorities and broadcasters in the region, as well as CEOs from regional and international organisations and industry.

Partnering the ABU in the summit are the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Thai Government and other stakeholders including UN agencies and development and funding institutes.

Titled “Asia-Pacific 2020: Smartly DIGITAL (Digital Inclusive Green Innovative Transformative Affordable Living)”, the summit will precede ITU TELECOM 2013 in Bangkok on 19-22 November.

ITU says an important part of the summit will be a high-level panel, “Envisioning Asia Pacific 2020”, which will address the challenges faced by the region, particularly by developing countries, in their efforts to harness the full potential of ICTs to benefit all of society.

“The aim of the panel session is to help build a truly inclusive and sustainable information and digital society, with special focus on those who are disadvantaged, underprivileged or marginalised,” said Ms. Eun-Ju Kim, Ph.D., Regional Director, ITU.

The summit program and other information are available on the event website: http://www.itu.int/en/ITU-D/Conferences/connect/Asia-Pacific/Pages/default.aspx.
