MediaCorp celebrates 50 years of TV in Singapore

In celebration of 50 years of television broadcasting in Singapore, MediaCorp and the National Heritage Board have jointly organised a month-long festival starting from 23 November.

Called “50 Years of TV: Experience the Magic”, the festival at the National Museum of Singapore is said to be an experiential showcase of how television has played an integral part in nation building and how it has shaped Singapore’s popular culture.

MediaCorp CEO Shaun Seow said: “For 50 years, MediaCorp television has held up a mirror to Singapore life, reflecting social mores, culture… and sometimes even helping to shape them. The half century mark is an important milestone, and what better way to celebrate it than through a public exhibition of broadcasting’s history and achievements.”

“I’m happy to have MediaCorp partner the National Heritage Board to present TV50 exhibition, which we think will be well worth your while to visit this year end. No doubt, it will entertain, as with many things to do with TV. But it may also set you in a contemplative mood, thinking of TV — and Singapore’s — past 50 years and the next,” he added.

National Heritage Board CEO Rosa Daniel said: “This year marks the 20th anniversary of the National Heritage Board and we are happy to celebrate the two milestones through this meaningful project. This exhibition will offer something for everyone.”
