Stirring ceremony opens Asian Youth Paralympic Games in KL

The Asian Youth Paralympic Games 2013 got underway in Kuala Lumpur this weekend with a colourful Opening Ceremony attended by more than two thousand athletes and coaches from more than 20 countries. ABU is the media partner for the Games.

After an emotional athletes’ entrance featuring most of the competitors, the Malaysian Minister for Youth and Sport Mr Khairy Jamaluddin gave a heart-felt welcome to all the athletes, their coaches and parents.

The Athletes’ Oath was taken by Malaysian Sitting Volleyball star Daniel Lee, the Para Games flag was raised and a stirring rendition of the Para Games Anthem was sung by popular local singer Darling.

One of ABU’s founding members, RTM, provided two-hour coverage of the day’s events, including full live coverage of the Opening Ceremony plus news reports on the competitions that morning, as well as other events surrounding the Games. All of RTM’s coverage was transmitted with sub-titling for the deaf.

A 30-minute daily highlights program is available to all ABU members free of charge. It is available on Asia Sat 5 at 16.15 GMT each day until 30 October 2013.
