RT launches Sochi Today English radio

In the run up to the 2014 Winter Olympics, ABU Member Russia Today has announced the launch of a 24-hour English-language radio station Sochi Today.

This will be the first radio station in Sochi to broadcast entirely in English. It is available in Sochi and its metropolitan area, which will host several Olympic events.

Radio content consists of high quality foreign music, as well as news releases, which are broadcast every half hour. The information block includes current world news, produced by RT journalists specially for the station.

Potential audience of Sochi Today during the Olympic Games, according to preliminary estimates, is expected to exceed three million people. Among listeners there will be athletes, officials, foreign journalists and sports fans.

“Thanks to Sochi Today, millions of foreign visitors to the Olympics will be on top of the most important and interesting events within the Olympic Sochi, as well as around the globe,” – said Margarita Simonyan, RT’s editor in chief. “I am certain that Sochi Today will carry all the successes that RT has achieved in television broadcasting, online, and on social media platforms into the radio sphere,” she added.
