Japan’s WOWOW & PBS to coproduce crowdsourced TV doc

The Japanese premium pay-TV broadcaster WOWOW is partnering with the US PBS station WNET to produce the new crowd-sourced TV documentary Sacred.

Sacred will use crowd-sourced footage from around the world to depict a journey through 365 days of spiritual life on Earth. The television doc will depict life’s sacred moments from viewers’ points of view, including major religious holidays, coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, rites of passage and more.

Submissions are being accepted through June 21, 2014. The user-submitted footage will be interwoven with some that has been professionally shot, worldscreen.com reports.

WOWOW will serve as co-producer and will oversee shooting in Japan and across Asia.
