Hong Kong’s TVB boosts HD with rented spectrum

The Hong Kong Communications Authority has endorsed an application by Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) and Asia Television Limited to share the Multiple Frequency Network (MFN) for digital terrestrial television services.

Under the temporary arrangement, effective up to 30 November 2015, TVB can use an additional 1.5 Mbps capacity in the MFN multiplex for the broadcast of its Pearl and Jade channels in high definition format, content-technology.com reports

Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) said the sole purpose of temporarily renting a small amount of spectrum from Asia Television Limited (ATV) is to enhance the picture quality of TVB Jade and Pearl channels. The improved service is at no cost to the audience and all related expenses are borne by TVB.
