New President for NHK announced

Information technology expert Mr Katsuto Momii has been named as the next President of Japan’s national public broadcaster NHK.

He will take over from the current president, Mr Masayuki Matsumoto, who will retire on 24 January 2014 at the completion of his three-year term. 

Mr Momii is currently Senior Corporate Advisor for information technology company Nihon Unisys Ltd. He had previously worked for Mitsui – one of the largest corporate conglomerates in Japan – which he joined in 1965, becoming president of a US division of the company and then a vice-president of the parent business.

The Japan News website reports that Mr Momii is known for his expertise in information technology and his broad international experience. He will start his tenure on 25 January 2014.
