Deal signed for 2014 Incheon Asian Paralympic Games

The Asian Paralympic Committee and the 2014 Incheon Asian Para Games Organising Committee have formalised a deal to organise the 2014 Asian Para Games.

In a contract-signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, the APC was represented by Secretary-General Ms Malini Rajasegaran, while the IAPGOC was represented by its Secretary-General, Hwang Eui Sik. APC President Dato Zainal Abu Zarin witnessed the signing while IAPGOC International Department Director Woo Hee Chang attended on behalf of the IAPGOC President.

The 2014 Incheon Asian Para Games will be held from 18-24 October 2014, with 23 sports listed in the competition schedule. Athletes and officials from 42 nations affiliated to APC are expected to take part.

Dato Zainal said the APC had been making efforts to empower the Paralympics movement and sports in Asia. “The Asian Para Games opens up new horizons and provides opportunities for sports leaders, athletes, officials and nations to enhance the development of para sports in their countries,” he said.

“With 23 sports listed, four more than Guangzhou 2010, the Incheon Para Games promises to be an even exciting affair. The 2014 Asian Para Games will be significant as athletes prepare themselves, competing and collecting valuable points to be part of the party in Rio on merit.”

Ms Malini Rajasegaran said that issues around the organisation of the 2014 Games had been resolved in true Asian Paralympics spirit and that all preparations for the Games were well underway.

“IAPGOC is making concerted efforts to meet all requirement of the Games,” she said.
