Pakistan upgrades its AM radio network

ABU member Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) is upgrading its medium wave network to ensure wide coverage and better reception across the country.

Associated Press of Pakistan reports two new powerful medium wave transmitters of 400 kilowatt and 100 kilowatt have recently been installed in Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan, to cover Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balochistan provinces.

With Japanese assistance, PBC is also replacing its Fakirabad medium wave transmitters with a 500 kilowatt high power transmitter along with transmitters at Hyderabad, Karachi and Larkana.

All new transmitters will become operational by the end of 2014.
