New content for Doordarshan’s Urdu channel

India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) is aiming to rejuvenate its Urdu channel with a slew of newly commissioned content ranging from literary fiction to reality TV shows.

DD has commissioned 40 new multi-genre programs, including the Mukta Arts production of what it terms a ‘showcase serial based on the memorable works of Urdu literary stalwart Saadat Hasan Manto. Classic Urdu literature will also be represented on the channel.

Musician Ila Arun will direct an hour-long musical reality show called Main Khayal Hoon Kisi Aur Ka, Mujhe Sochta Koi Aur Hai, scheduled to air on Sunday evenings.

A new TV show for children, Nasha Masiha, will also feature in the new season’s content, along with a docu-drama written by Minister Sh. Salman Khursheed. TV series Akhir Kab Tak, Aangan, Firangee and Chiraagh also feature in DD Urdu’s new line-up.

Two new Urdu chat shows, a health programme, a cookery show, and a travel programme will also join documentaries on science, art and poetry.
